※ Dolch Sight Words List의 뜻: Sight Words란 문장 속에 자주 나오는 빈도수가 아주 높은 어휘를 말하는데 Sight Words라고 하는 말의 뜻은 단어를 이미지로 인식해서 학습한다는 의미에서 만들어진 용어이다. Sight Words를 미국의 Edward William Dolch 박사(1889-1961)가 1930~1940년대의 아이들의 책을 분석해서 그 안에 나온 단어들 중 50~70%를 차지하는 어휘를 정리한 단어 목록이다.

 

Sight Words가 중요한 이유: 영어동화책, 교과서 등의 모든 영어책에 자주 쓰이는 단어인 만큼 그 중요성은 아무리 강조해도 지나치지 않다. 이 중 현대영어에서 쓰이지 않는 몇 단어를 빼고 더해서 현재 220단어로 학습시키고 있다.
